The Wizards of Once - Twice Magic by Cressida Cowell

This week I finished reading the book The Wizards of Once - Twice Magic by Cressida Cowell. This is the second book in the series. The story follows the adventures of a warrior princess who has a magical eye (Wish) and a young Wizard prince who has the mark of a witch (Xar). They are on a very dangerous mission to rid their world of the evil and treacherous witches. Both Wish and Xar escape imprisonment at the beginning of the novel and, along with their friends Caliburn, Bodkin, Crusher, the sprites and a werewolf, they journey through the Wildwoods towards Castle Death. Along they way, they are attacked by a nasty witch on the Sweet Track and when they finally make it to Castle Death, they manage to steal the last breath of the Giant. Lurking under the castle is the Kingwitch, who launches an attack on the whole party. Xar and Wish fight bravely and the story ends on a  real cliffhanger. I think that there will be another book in this series because it was revealed at the end of the story that they need more ingredients for the spell to rid the world of witches.

In our lessons this week, we have been learning how to ask thick and thin questions in order to test our understanding of the texts we read. We were also working on our vocabulary using the 'Don't TELL me, SHOW me' strategy. Here, we had to use descriptive language about a setting. I chose to write about an accident. This is what I wrote: CRASH! BANG! Broken glass is flung into the distance while thick red blood oozes over the steering wheel. It was a lot of fun and made me think carefully about the words I use. My reading goal for next week is to read four chapters of my new book.
