Party Games by R.L. Stine

This week I am reading Party Games by R.L. Stine. I have read up to page 182, which is the beginning of chapter 28. So far my book is about a girl named Rachel, she is dating her bad-tempered boyfriend (Mac) but has a crush on nerdy Brendan Fear (a video game obsessed geek). Rachel was invited to a party that he was throwing but her now ex-boyfriend and her best friend warned her not to go to Brendan Fear's party. The party was held on Fear Island in an old mansion known to have ghosts and spooky tales. When they arrived on the island it was late evening and the mansion looked pretty worn down. Later on into the night, they all decided to have a scavenger hunt where they were to look for items on their list and return first but the game comes to an end when the house becomes a murder scene. No one is safe when the fifth victim is squashed like a Jenga piece. I enjoy reading the novel Party Games because of its thrilling setting and jaw-dropping murder methods.

In class, we have been learning how to use the 'Don't TELL me, SHOW me' strategy to improve our descriptive language. I wrote a short paragraph about an old man using words that we came up with to describe the setting 'old man'. This is what I wrote: He stood hunched over leaning on his crooked walking stick, bones creaking as he turned his head. His face looked droopy because of all him stretchy skin. My reading goal this week is to read 60 pages.

  1. This sounds like a really scary story. I wonder who the next victim will be and who will survive? What do you think?
